The Section takes its name from the famous Indian Chief Tecumseh who was born within the Section's area near Xenia, the county seat of Greene County, in Oldtown. Oldtown, today a small hamlet on the bike trail, is the site of Old Chillicothe, the best known Native American settlement in Ohio. This was the home of both Tecumseh and Blackfish.
Tecumseh ("panther passing across" ) 1768 -1813, was the most famous Native American in history. The Shawnee Chieftain was known for his hatred of westward expansion, and for his ability as a leader in uniting other tribes against the usurping of their lands. Tecumseh devoted his life to protecting the Indian way of life with its reverence for nature.
