The Northeast Ohio Group of the Sierra Club is going to sponsor
a political committee this year. We will have activities ranging
from endorsements to work on the presidential campaign.
In the endorsement process, you will get the opportunity to meet
candidates for office and evaluate their environmental records.
An endorsement interview is also the occasion to provide candidates
with information about environmental issues. There are many candidates
and office holders who earnestly want to help the environment,
but they don’t have the background to know what they should
be voting for. They are eager to gain the information that environmentalists
can provide them.
The Sierra Club can campaign for the candidates we endorse, too.
Sierra political activists can do the grassroots work of organizing
rallies, registering voters or writing to the media about candidates
and their positions.
This year is a presidential election. We certainly should take
advantage of our key role as the prime environmental grassroots
organization to put a pro-environment and pro-science leader into
the White House. It is quite likely that the Northeast Ohio Group
is going to have an organizer dedicated to that campaign.
Now more than ever, be a part of the change. Please email Richard
Clark of the NEO Sierra Political Committee to get on an email
(or phone) list for networking. Let us know what activity may interest
you, or jump in as opportunities arise.
