In our last issue, I reported that we continue in
our efforts to stop the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA)
from granting a requested mercury variance to the FirstEnergy Lakeshore
Plant. The OEPA delayed their decision due
to YOUR efforts. Since that article was written, we were able to
obtain 600 more signatures
at the Earth Day event in April at the Cleveland Zoo. We hand-delivered
these signatures and a letter to Cleveland City Council, Mayor
Jackson and, of course, to the OEPA.
We’d like to thank all of you who signed the petitions, called
the OEPA or their representatives, and composed letters and/or e-mails.
As of today, the OEPA has not issued a decision. We’ll keep you
posted! Check this website and our Facebook page
for updates.
