Letters to the editor
TWO WATER-QUALITY PLANS ARE LINKED
In response to the letter to the editor by MSD director Bob Campbell "Two water-quality plans are separate" (June 13), apparently confusion exists between Campbell and the issue of water quality. While MSD's $1.99 billion Wet Weather Improvement Plan will improve water quality, it has been engineered in large part to improve water quality in conjunction with anticipated reductions in water-quality standards.
The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission's (ORSANCO) proposal would raise the legal threshold for E-coli bacteria allowed to enter local waterways. However, due to the massive amount of adversary public comment, ORSANCO has postponed the vote on these proposed reductions. MSD has no plan, which will meet current water quality standards for the Ohio River, nor Mill Creek. MSD has banked on the assertion that ORSANCO would adopt the new standards. The sewer district has a lot riding on this proposal. The two issues are incontrovertibly linked.
