Conservation Initiatives & Opportunities

Sierra Club works on many local conservation initiatives.  These initiatives include protecting the Little Miami River, environmental enforcement, fighting environmental justice, protecting our forests, promoting transportation alternatives, fighting urban sprawl, protecting water quality and providing public education.  For an in-depth look at each of these campaigns, please visit our Local Issues page.

Hunter/Angler Opportunities

The dedication of sportsmen and women has helped to pass landmark conservation laws like the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act and the Wilderness Act.  Programs funded by hunters and anglers have directed billions of dollars towards the conservation of fish and wildlife habitat.  For more information click here. Sierra Club has initiated a nationwide campaign to create a working relationship with these conservationists to help ensure the future of our environment.  We are seeking men and women who love to fish or hunt to help us on this campaign.

If you like to fish or hunt and would like more information on how you can get involved today, please contact us at (513) 861-4001.

Paddle Lake Loramie , plus Car Camp and Day Hikes - 2.

Lynn Frock will be the leader along with co-leader Larry Bowder for the kayaking activity.

Pat Frock and Elizabeth Durrell will be the leaders of the Day Hikes.

This six mile long, 1,655 acre lake was built in 1844-1845 as a water supply for the Miami Eire canal. The kayaking will explore the length of the lake as well as bays and inlets. The lake has a “no wake” rule, except for the far western end. In addition to the daylong coastal kayak activity, join Pat and Elizabeth to explore several of the hiking trails within the Lake area as well as outside of it. Since the Lake was a feeder for the Miami-Erie Canal, the towpath trail is available from the camping area. Hiking it also gives us the experience of hiking on both the Buckeye and North Country Trails! There is a Gross Woods Nature Preserve close by which is one of the few mixed species swamp forests remaining in Ohio. We will camp at the State Park campgrounds next to the lake.

Reservations are necessary by May 19. To reserve your place for this varied weekend, contact Pat or Lynn Frock at 321-3187 or Elizabeth Durrell at 481-1926, email at ejdurrell@mac.com.
