Canoe outings was the initial activity that brought many of the early Miami Group members together to form the Sierra Club in Southwest Ohio. These outings led to the formation of the Skill School that is now known as the Paddlesports School which has a variety of classes for various levels of canoe and kayak activity.
Long time instructors and members of this area of water expertise will share stories with pictures of some of their trips and events for this evening of education and entertainment. Many of the stories will be of adventures which will allow those in attendance to enjoy the activities vicariously. However, the presentations will allow participants to understand the opportunities inherent in the presenters stories for enjoying water activities and why safety and knowledge of the boats and types of water features make for increased enjoyment. Many of the Paddlesports School instructors will be present to answer questions, tell their stories and encourage participation in the upcoming classes that begin in the month of May.
Henry Dorfman from Cincy Paddlers will also share stories and explain the nature of this large group of paddling people. |
As we head into summer activities, biking becomes another favorite Miami Group outing culminating with the Morning Glory Ride on the first Sunday of August. Many people in the greater Cincinnati area enjoy bicycling as an activity and an adventure. We will feature one or more of these people sharing their stories of outings locally and in far reaching areas of the U.S. and beyond.
Dan Korman of Park+Vine is a strong promoter of bicycling, the Miami Group and our Morning Glory Ride. He will share his interest in this activity and a little about his “green” store, Park+Vine, including his outreach to the community to promote biking. Beyond the Miami Group, the local bicycling comminuty travels all over the world on bicycles. We will get to see a glimpse of this exciting way to travel and see the world.
Members of the Morning Glory Committee will share their passion for biking and the major part it can play in our efforts to “Come Together for the Earth”. |
