Transportation Choices
Local Transportation Plans
- Eastern Corridor Project
The Eastern Corridor project is evaluating long-term transportation solutions necessary to meet growing usage patterns in the region extending from downtown Cincinnati and eastern Hamilton County to western Clermont County.
The Sierra Club has concerns about the current Eastern Corridor transportation plan. The Miami Group also believes that we can improve traffic conditions and increase ease of travel through the addition of well-planned alternative transportation choices that would benefit the public and preserve the natural environment.
Concerns with the current proposal includes:
- The light rail line that is proposed in this plan would run parallel to the 50 from Eastgate area to downtown Cincinnati. It would be enpensive and costly to our environment to build above the floodplains and the public need for this specific line is not clear.
- The proposed expansion of highway 50 would not eliminate the regions traffic and congestion issues. In fact, highway expansion has been linked to increased traffic conditions (Expansion Induces Traffic). Expansion would also require the creation of a bridge over the Little Miami River. This bridge would be detrimental to the region's only National Wild and Scenic River.
- Please see the EPA's Environmental Impact Statement on this proposed statement
