Green Building & Design
The advantages of building "green" are beneficial to the environment, the economy and the social equity of our citizens. When we mimic the processes of the natural environment we are able to mitigate the negative impacts of development. Whether it be by using alternative forms of energy or turning our rooftops into gardens, building green is truly beneficial to all. Below is a list of articles and web sites, along with local projects that you can read up on and discover how you can start helping the world by building green.
NEWS
On September 20, 2006 City Council passed an ordinance which will provide incentives to encourage developers to build "green" in Cincinnati. This ordinance is a result of two motions written by Councilmembers Laketa Cole and Chris Bortz to provide tax and other financial incentives to develop buildings to Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standards. New municipal buildings and renovations to existing municipal buildings will also incorporate green building elements. Additionally, a fund will be created to provide loans to developers of low and moderate income housing to build LEED certified. This is a huge step forward for our community!
