Time: 7:00 PM. Join us for an easy paced walk of 3 miles in the parks along Alum Creek and past the grand old mansions. Meet at Franklin Park, 1777 E. Broad St., NE corner of the parking lot by the railroad. Contact leader for further information.
Sunday, March 16 -- Blendon Woods Metro Park, Ratings: E/S 2/2
Time: 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. This Metro Park offers crushed gravel trails and a few hills for a challenge. There are two sessions for this hike and each session is about 3 miles each. We will walk at a leisurely pace. Meet at the Nature Center (4265 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. (boots, water, lunch). Contact leader for further information.
Friday, March 21 -- Worthington, Ratings: E/S 2/2
Time: 7:00 PM. Join us for a 3 mile hike in the Old Worthington area. We will walk in and around Old Worthington and through the finest Worthington neighborhoods. Please wear sturdy footwear as we may encounter muddy, frozen or snowy areas. The hike will end with an optional dinner at a popular restaurant. Meet in the parking lot behind the Dairy Queen, located 2 blocks north of Route 161, on the east side of High Street. Contact leader for further information.
Sunday, March 23 -- Hocking Hills Day Hike, Ratings: E/S 3/4
Time: 9:00 AM. This is a dog friendly hike. If you haven't been to this part of the state, or even if you have, the scenery in and around Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Rose Lake, and Ash Cave is unequaled for its beauty and serenity. We will be hiking 12 miles at a brisk pace and tackle some challenging hills so be prepared for a vigorous day. Bring lunch, water and hiking boots and meet at 9 AM behind McDonalds at Route 33 and Gender Rd. Contact leader for further information.
Friday, March 28 -- Ohio State University – Main Campus, Ratings: E/S 1/2
Time: 7:00 PM. Change has become a constant on OSU’s main campus so come and check out the latest. Meet at 7 PM at the Tuttle Park Recreation Center at the end of W. Oakland Ave. which is west of Neil Ave. We’ll stay on the east side of the Olentangy River for this walk. Our route will include Ohio Stadium, Mirror Lake and the Oval as well as the new Ohio Union and the recently refurbished Thompson library. We’ll find a restaurant in the area for an optional dinner afterwards. Contact leaders for further information.
Sunday, March 30 -- Scioto Trails State Park Hike, Ratings: E/S 4/5
Time: 9:00 AM. The forest and park are nestled in the high ground of the Appalachian foothills rising above the Scioto River Valley. This historic area was home of the Shawnees as late as the 1700’s and saw the arrival of early American explorers who traveled up the Scioto River. This hike of 11+ miles has most trails in the forest and is comprised of rugged terrain that rapidly descends or rises. While offering expansive views of the area, this is a strenuous hike and may have additional weather related challenges. Bring water, lunch, boots, suitable attire and meet behind Tim Hortons in the Great Southern Shopping Center on U.S. 23 just north of I-270. Contact leader for further information.
Wednesday, April 2 -- Franklin Park Conservatory, Ratings: E/S 1/1
Time: 6:30 PM. Enjoy an hour long stroll through this scenic and historic park just 4 miles east of downtown Columbus. Meet inside the east entrance of the Conservatory on the lower level (left of doors).The Conservatory, located at 1777 E. Broad St., is open from 5-8 PM. Friday, April 4 -- Grove City, Ratings: E/S 1/2
Time: 7:00 PM. We will meet at Grove City Library, 3359 Park Street, Grove City. The walk will start at the library and proceed through the local neighborhood. An optional dinner will take place after the hike. Contact leader for further information.
Sunday, April 6 -- Clear Creek Metro Park Day Hike, Ratings: E/S 3/4
Time: 9:00 AM. We’ll start at the Creekside Meadows picnic area and hike the Hemlock and Chestnut trails to the west end of the park. We’ll return via the Chestnut trail and then walk the Cemetery Ridge trail. The total distance is approximately 10 miles. The terrain at Clear Creek is hilly and the trails are often uneven, so good hiking shoes or boots are a must. Dress for the weather, bring water and a lunch and meet behind the McDonalds at Winchester Square, at the intersection of U.S. Rte 33 and Gender Rd. Contact leader for further information.
Friday, April 11 -- Gahanna Creekside Night Hike, Ratings: E/S 1/1
Time: 7:00 PM. Explore the old and the new of Gahanna as we walk along the boardwalk of Creekside Park. Meet at the VFW Park at 75 W. Johnstown Rd. on the southwest corner of Big Walnut Creek south of Granville Rd. (270 E to 62 E, turn right on Olde Ridenour Rd., then left onto Johnstown Rd. to the creekside). Sunday, April 13 -- Hargus Lake Day Hike, Ratings: E/S 2/2
Time: 9:00 AM. We’ll hike 5-6 miles around scenic Hargus Lake in AW Marion State Park. We will have one or two short snack stops during the hike and lunch in the park after the hike. If the weather is nice, you will have the option of hiking 2-3 more miles after lunch at nearby Stage’s Pond. Bring your own food, plenty of water, and sturdy shoes or hiking boots for the wooded and at times uneven and muddy terrain. Meet south of Columbus behind Tim Hortons at the north end of Great Southern Shopping Center, located on the west side of South High Street (SR 23), just north of I-270. Time: 7:00 PM. Time 7:00 PM. Join us for a walk through historic German Village. We will walk around the German Village neighborhoods and visit Frank Fetch Park. Meet at Schiller Park (Deshler and Jaeger). We will be walking about 3 miles. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for uneven walking surfaces. Flash light and light, reflective clothing is recommended. Sunday, April 20 -- Three Creeks Confluence Park, Ratings: E/S 2/2
Time: 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. We will hike past the confluence of the park's namesake and enjoy the fauna found along the way. Wear hiking boots as conditions may be muddy or slick. Meet at the Confluence bulletin board by the restroom at 3669 Bixby Rd., Groveport. Bring a snack or lunch if hiking both sessions of 3 miles each. Contact leader for further information.
Friday, April 25 -- Scioto Audubon Metro Park, Ratings: E/S 1/1
Time: 7:00 PM. Join us for a walk starting from the Grange Insurance Audubon Center at the Scioto Audubon Metro Park. We will look for birds on the Whittier Peninsula, followed by a hike through the park, downtown, and the Brewery District. This is a nice hike blending nature with the city. Meet at the Audubon Center parking lot. Wear sturdy shoes for uneven walkways. The Audubon Center is located at 505 West Whittier Street in downtown Columbus. Sunday, April 27 -- Great Seal State Park Day Hike, Ratings: E/S 4/5
Time: 9:00 AM. This state park takes its name from the emblem of Ohio which it helped to inspire. Great Seal is situated on the western edge of the Appalachian Plateau and offers views of the Scioto Valley to the west and south. This 9+ mile hike spans the southern region, the hilly Bunker Hill and Mt Ives Trails, and then extends northward to Rocky Knob. It is a strenuous hike on steep hills and ridge-tops. Bring water, lunch, suitable attire and meet at 9 AM behind Tim Hortons in the Great Southern Shopping Center on U.S 23 just north of I-270. Contact leader for further information.
