Friday, December 19 -- Worthington Holiday Lights, Ratings: E/S 2/2

 

Time: 7:00 PM. We will be walking 3 plus miles to view the holiday lights in downtown Worthington, the Rush Creek area and the Village of Riverlea. Please wear light reflective clothing. Meet in front of the Villa Nova Restaurant on High St. one mile north of Morse Rd. There is ample parking on the side streets close to Villa Nova. There will be an optional dinner after the hike at Villa Nova’s. Contact leader for further information.

 

Sunday, December 21 -- Mohican State Park Day Hike, Ratings: E/S 4/4

 

Time: 9:00 AM. This hike of 10+ miles takes us along the trails of the Clear Fork River and ridges that form the Clear Fork Gorge. The gorge originated from the erosion of the moraines, rock till and deposits of the Wisconsinan glacier. Today, the wildlife and forest growth comprise an area designated as a National Natural Landmark. Bring water, lunch, boots, suitable attire and meet in the far end of Target’s parking lot on Polaris Parkway, west of exit # 121 on I-71 north of Columbus. Friday, December 26 -- German Village, Ratings: E/S 1/1

 

Time: 7:00 PM. Join us for a walk through historic German Village. We will walk around the German Village neighborhoods and visit Frank Fetch Park. Meet at Schiller Park (Deshler and Jaeger). We will be walking about 3 miles. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for uneven walking surfaces. Flash light and light, reflective clothing is recommended. Optional potluck after the hike. Sunday, December 28 -- Scioto Audubon/downtown urban walk, Ratings: E/S 1/1

 

Time: 11 AM and 1 PM. We will spend the early session exploring what this park has to offer. The 1pm session we'll follow a map/audio tour with Columbus Arts Walk in an area close by. Bring lunch or snack and dress for conditions. Park walk will be on crushed gravel and concrete 3 miles. PM walk will follow sidewalks and roadways that may be uneven (3-4 miles ) Meet at 505 W.Whittier St. at the NE corner of the Nature Center. Contact leader for further information.

 

Friday, January 2 -- Clintonville, Ratings: E/S 1/1

 

Time: 7:00 PM. Meet at the Whetstone Library parking lot. We will walk about 3 to 3.5 miles through North Clintonville and possibly Overbrook Ravine. Enjoy an optional dinner in the area afterwards. Reflective clothing is recommended. Contact leaders for further information.

 

Sunday, January 4 -- Highbanks Metro Park Day Hike, Ratings: E/S 2/2

 

Time: 11:00 AM. Meet at the Nature Center. Highbanks is named for its massive shale bluffs that tower over the Olentangy State Scenic River. The park is rich in Native American history as it contains two Adena Indian burial mounds and prehistoric earthwork. We will hike 3 to 6 miles depending on weather and trail conditions including some small but steep hills. Sturdy footwear is needed for possible wet, muddy, snowy, or icy conditions. Bring lunch or a snack for the longer hike option. Note: This hike may be cancelled if road or trail conditions are hazardous. Call the leader prior to driving to the meeting point if the weather is questionable. Contact leader for further information.

 

Friday, January 9 -- Grove City, Ratings: E/S 1/2

 

Time: 7:00 PM. We will meet at Grove City Library, 3359 Park Street, Grove City. The walk will start at the library and proceed through the local n eighborhood. An optional dinner will take place after the hike. Contact leader for further information.

 

Sunday, January 11 -- Confluence Park, Ratings: E/S 2/2

 

Time: 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. We will hike past the confluence of the park's namesake and enjoy the fauna found along the way. Wear hiking boots as conditions may be muddy or slick. Meet at the Confluence bulletin board by the restroom at 3669 Bixby Rd., Groveport. Bring a snack or lunch if hiking both sessions of 3 miles each. Contact leader for further information.

 

Friday, January 16 -- German Village, Ratings: E/S 1/1

 

Time: 7:00 PM. Join us for a walk through historic German Village. We will walk around the German Village neighborhoods and visit Frank Fetch Park. Meet at Schiller Park (Deshler and Jaeger). Sunday, January 18 -- Great Seal State Park Day Hike, Ratings: E/S 4/5

 

Time: 9:00 AM. This is one of our youngest state parks and takes its name from the emblem of Ohio which it helped to inspire. Great Seal is situated on the western edge of the Appalachian Plateau and offers views of the Scioto Valley to the west and south. This 9+ mile hike spans the southern region, the hilly Bunker Hill and Mt Ives Trails, and then extends northward to Rocky Knob. It is a strenuous hike on steep hills and ridge tops. Bring water, lunch, suitable attire and meet behind Tim Hortons in the Great Southern Shopping Center on U.S 23 just north of I-270. Contact leader for further information.

 

Friday, January 23 -- Bexley, Ratings: E/S 1/2

 

Time: 7:00 PM. Capital University and Pumphouse Park are two of the sites to be found on this three miles hike. Meet at the Bexley Library parking lot, 2411 E. Main St. Contact leader for further information.

 

Sunday, January 25 -- Blenden Woods Metro Park, Ratings: E/S 2/2

 

Time: 10:00 AM. / 12:00 AM. Rollings hills will give you a good work out through woods and meadows, a small stream carved through out the park shows the power of water erosion. Meet at the Nature Center at 4265 E. Dublin-Granville rd in Westerville Loop trail of 3 miles a session. Bring water, snack or lunch. Contact leader for further information.

 

Friday, January 30 -- Grandview Heights, Ratings: E/S 1/1

 

Time: 7:00 PM. We will take a neighborhood walk through Grandview. Meet in the parking lot of the Grandview Library on First Ave., two blocks west of Grandview Ave. After the hike, we will have an optional dinner at a local restaurant. Contact leader for further information.

 

Sunday, February 1 -- Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, Ratings: E/S 2/2

 

Time: 11:00 AM. Meet at the Ranger Station at Cedar Ridge.which is 2 and 3/4 mile South of Broad St on Darby Creek Dr. We’ll hike about 4 to 6 miles depending on weather and trail conditions on a mix of flat and hilly terrain. After the hike, you’ll have the option of walking (or driving) to the Nature Center. Bring boots or sturdy walking shoes, water and a snack or lunch. Contact leader for further information.

 

Friday, February 6 -- New Albany, Ratings: E/S 2/2

 

Time: 7:00 PM. We will walk around the prestigious New Albany golf club and the surrounding neighborhoods. Meet at 200 Market Street in New Albany and park at the northeast corner of the library. (The far right corner when facing the library). (Flashlight and reflective clothing is recommended). There will be an optional dinner after the hike at a local restaurant. Sunday, February 8 -- Burr Oak State Park, Ratings: E/S 4/5

 

Time: 9:00 AM. This hike of 9-11 miles will take us through some trails at Burr Oak, a valley area typical of the southeast wilderness of Ohio. Carved by erosion of the Appalachian Mountain foothills, it is replete with ridges, rock formations, lakes, and a variety of flora and wildlife. Historically, the area’s development stemmed from nearby water transportation hubs, mining industries, and settlements by Civil War veterans who accepted land in payment for services. Bring water, lunch, boots, suitable attire and meet behind McDonald's at Winchester Square Shopping Center, near US 33 and Gender Rd. Contact leader for further information.

Time: 7:00 PM. Join us for a walk through historic German Village. We will walk around the German Village neighborhoods and visit Frank Fetch Park. Meet at Schiller Park (Deshler and Jaeger). Friday, February 20 -- Gahanna Creekside Night Hike, Ratings: E/S 1/1

 

Time: 7:00 PM. Explore the old and the new of Gahanna as we walk along the boardwalk of Creekside Park. Meet at the VFW Park at 75 W. Johnstown Rd. on the southwest corner of Big Walnut Creek south of Granville Rd. (270 E to 62 E, turn right on Olde Ridenour Rd., then left onto Johnstown Rd. to the creekside). A flashlight and reflective clothing are recommended. Contact leader for further information.

 

Sunday, February 22 -- Granville Hike, Ratings: E/S 3/4

 

Time: 9:00 AM. This hike of 6-8 miles at a brisk pace will take place at the Denison University biological reserve, with some hiking also in the village. Please bring lunch and dress appropriately for the weather and possibly wet trails. Optional snacking in the village will follow the hike. We will meet at 9:00 AM at the New Albany public library parking lot, 200 Market Street New Albany, OH 43054, and commute to Granville. Contact leader for further information.
