Help Fight Sewer Violations

CONTRIBUTE NOW
YOUR DONATION WILL BE MATCHED!

On Nov. 24 Columbus passed a water/sewer rate increase that would raise the average bill by about $40/year.  Yet the City is a long way from spending our ratepayer dollars in an economic and environmentally beneficial manner. The Club’s work has to potential to redirect the spending of billions. Make out a tax-deductible check to the Sierra Club Foundation and mail it to: Sierra Club Treasurer, 6760 Hayhurst St., Worthington, OH 43085.  We have a generous donor who will match all donations up to $2000!

SEE THIS ISSUE OF THE OHIO SIERRAN

Read about the good (The Raw Sewage Community Right-to-Know Act, H.R. 2215), the bad (the Bush Administration Record on Sewage Discharges) and the ugly (the Bush Administration proposal to allow municipalities to dump more untreated sewage into our rivers). Read also the article Columbus Sewer Rates Increase, Lack Accountability by Pat Marida in this issue of the Ohio Sierran.

ONLINE ACTION--

Tell Mayor Coleman:
" For Our Health, Stop Sewage Overflows!"

Using this service of the Ohio Sierra Club, non-members as well as members can send messages quickly and easily to key government officials.  Voice your opinion about Columbus' dangerous sewage dumping into our rivers and basements!  An email message has been written to the mayor and you can send it online.  You can also add a note to tell him if you have had sewage backups in your basement, or make your own statements of concern.  Go to http://ohio.sierraclubaction.org and sign up!  When you join, the Chapter will notify you of timely online actions no more often than once every other week.  In addition to the Stop Sewage Overflows in Columbus alert, there are other current alerts you can respond to online.

YOU CAN HELP TO STOP SEWAGE OVERFLOWS

We urge you to become involved in the Sierra Club’s Sewers Campaign, whether it’s donating a few hours or a few dollars.  You can help by writing Mayor Michael Coleman at 90 W. Broad St., Columbus 43215 or calling him at 645-7671. Tell him: “For Our Health, Stop Sewage Overflows.” Or send him an email at mac@cmhmetro.net> You can also send an email from the Sierra Club Ohio Action Network.  (See ONLINE ACTION above.)

Columbus provides sewer services to much of central Ohio.  Call COG Chair Pat Marida at 614-890-7865 <marida@wideopenwest.com> and volunteer to help in the Columbus Sewers Campaign.
