Sierra Club Central Ohio Group: News & Notices

Now Seeking Candidates for Executive Committee

The Central Ohio Group is seeking candidates to run for election to the Executive Committee. ExCom is the top decision-making body in the Group and consists of 11 members. FIVE positions will be open for the upcoming election. We are seeking candidates for 2-year terms which will begin in January 2010. Membership on the ExCom requires attending the monthly meetings (currently being held on first Wednesday evenings), playing a key role in setting policy, and building local programs and activities. We also expect ExCom members to take on other responsibilities, such as being a member of a standing committee or a conservation subcommittee. The following characteristics are also desirable: long-term commitment to the environment, positive manner with people, experience in leadership or in the Sierra Club, and dependability. If you are interested in being part of an active and vital organization working for the environment and justice in Central Ohio, contact Central Ohio Group Chair .

Conservation Committee Update

Streams and rivers will remain the focus of the Conservation Committee in the year ahead.

The Conservation Committee, along with all Sierra Club members, expresses its appreciation for the tireless and dedicated work of Bob Kyle. His trademark salutation is "for the grandchildren" - no better words explain what we do and why we do it.  We send Bob our thoughts and prayers as he recovers at Thurber Towers from a recent stroke.

Steve McCaw, taking over as Conservation Chair for Bob Kyle, met with members on May 27 and discussed past efforts of the group. It was felt that because most environmental issues ultimately affect streams and because Central Ohio's waterways are the region's most significant natural features, we should continue to focus our efforts on their behalf.

Of course, all environmental issues are open for discussion and action.  Please join us every third Wednesday upstairs at the Simply Living offices, 2929 N. High Street at 7:00 pm.  We hope to see you there!

Sierra Club Garage Sale—Coming in Early September!

The Central Ohio Sierra Club will hold its garage sale early in September and we need donations of your unwanted “treasures”!  Look for More details to come online and in the next issue of the Sierran. The garage sale is an important fundraising event for the work of the Group. Thank you!
