Westerville Residents Turn Out for Cool Cities Town Hall

By , Building Environmental Communities Coordinator

As we gear up our Cool Cities campaign in areas throughout Central Ohio, our work led us in May to the town of Westerville for a town hall meeting. Featuring presentations by residents of Westerville, students at nearby Otterbein College, Columbus’s environmental steward Susan Ashbrook and emceed by the Chair of the Central Ohio Group, Kelli Drummer-Avendano, Westerville residents received information about Sierra Club’s Cool Cities Campaign, and why Westerville should join the more than 500 cities that have signed the US Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement.  More than 100 residents turned out for the event, which featured a sustainability study, Q and A with members of the audience, and a special visit from the Mayor of Westerville and members of City Council.  All in all it was a great way to engage new people with our work and make others aware of the Cool Cities initiative that they can work on right at home in Westerville.  As follow up continues and we ask the city to sign onto our work, we encourage everyone to either join or start a Cool Cities campaign in your city today!
