Central Ohio Relocalization Effort (CORE)

By , Manager, CORE
Post Carbon Institute works internationally to assist societies in their efforts to relocalize communities and adapt to an energy-constrained world. The Institute is convinced that production of oil and natural gas will peak soon before declining, climate change is worsening, and the current global economic system is unstable, reinforcing huge disparities.

As an educational institution and think tank, Post Carbon Institute explores what cultures, civilization, governance and economies might look like without the use of non-renewable hydrocarbons for energy and chemical feedstocks. Its response is to promote drastically lower consumption, greater local self-reliance, and more cooperative and inclusive communities

The Institute’s primary tool to achieve these goals is a network of groups working within their own communities. The Central Ohio Relocalization Effort (CORE) is a part of this network. Our efforts at this juncture are primarily threefold:

1. Orientation - getting members on the same page regarding who we are and what actions we want to pursue to prepare for fossil fuel depletion in our corner of the world.

2. Outreach - getting more organizations/citizens aware and actively promoting oil awareness, conservation, and local government responsiveness.

3. Research – taking inventory of our bioregion, evaluating its preparedness, and promoting good local government and business solutions to the deficiencies.

The Central Ohio Relocalization Effort's message is: Our world is going to change. Planning for supplying our needs locally (relocalization) is preferable to “emergency triage” relocalization.

We meet on the second Monday of each month at the Northwood High Building , 2231 N. High St., Room 100. Our next meetings will be July 10 and Aug. 14  at 7 PM. Orientation for newcomers is at 6:30 PM.
