About Us

The Sierra Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. The Appalachian Ohio Group (AOG) of the Sierra Club was formed in January of 2005. Our mission is to focus attention on environmental and conservation issues in southeastern Ohio and to cultivate appreciation of our local natural heritage, the great Eastern Forest.  We live in one of the most diverse and biologically rich regions on the earth.

AOG offers the opportunity to get together with like-minded people for day hikes, conservation-oriented walks, and forays into the special natural areas of Southeastern Ohio, both rural and urban. Sierra Club outings are a great way to find out about local conservation issues while enjoying the great outdoors.

We are a network of dedicated volunteers and grassroots activists  working  together to solve the environmental challenges facing Southeastern Ohio. Through public education and political advocacy we can achieve our goals to

* Explore, enjoy and protect Appalachian Ohio’s public wildlands.
* Promote a new energy future for Appalachian Ohio.
* Work to build healthy, environmentally responsible, and sustainable communities in both rural
  and urban Southeastern Ohio.
* Build a healthy and effective Appalachian Ohio Group.
